NOT RUNNING VERY WELL?

Stop looking for excuses and start looking for reasons.  Poor training usually means poor racing.

 

 Cut down the risk of Achilles tendon injuries.

To perform surgery on a brand new pair of running shoes takes a brave person.  Shoes with heel tabs are designed for runners with a perfect leg action which hits the ground square each time.  The majority of us however are not that lucky and run with any style that we can to cover the ground.  The most common injury and one of the hardest to get rid of is the Achilles Tendon strain.  I missed long periods of training with this problem before I was advised to cut the heel tabs.

This action reduced the pressure on the tendon especially when running fast or down hill.  I cut through the tab on each side of the heel to a depth of approximately one inch and if the tabs are particularly high I make a cut in the middle also.  The result is a comfortable shoe which allows injury free training.  Do not cut below the main stitching at the back of the shoes as this will weaken the ankle support.

For safety reasons it is recommended that you do not run alone.  That you wear reflective clothing in the dark.  Join a running club.
